We all know that oatmeal is a wonderful and incredibly nutritious breakfast food, rich in soluble fiber and antioxidants. It lowers cholesterol and protects LDL from damage. Many of us know, though, that oatmeal is also beneficial to and for our skin. Oatmeal contains saponins, which are natural cleansers. It also contains skin-loving vitamins like copper, zinc, thiamin and niacin. It can soak up excess oil on skin, helping treat acne and blackheads. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties help to treat dry skin and remove dead skin cells. It helps relieve skin itching and irritation. It helps guard against bad bacteria and UV rays. Oatmeal can be used in body scrubs. It removes the dirt and oil that clog the pores and exfoliate the skin, making it smooth and clear. So not only is oatmeal a great addition to your diet, it's also great for your skin care regimen! If you're interested, I have a couple of whipped soaps that contain ground oatmeal. One is called Relax At Home, which is scented with essential oils and is in a 16 oz jar (the only one available!), and the other is called Calming, which comes in 5 oz jars and has no essential oils. Go to the Origin: Nature Skincare tab and check them out when you get the chance. Make your self-care a priority!
